Heart of Wanaka
Wanaka Hotel sits right in the heart of Wanaka.
We have a long history, situated in the centre of our town, and at the centre of many lives. The Wanaka Hotel is a family, proudly made up of long-term locals, some of whom have worked here for over 40 years.
Wanaka Hotel is our *Tūrangawaewae; it is our place to stand, it is our home away from home. The hotel, community and people hold a special place in our hearts. And of course, sharing our town with guests is at the heart of what we do. We are a family and we want to give back to our community.
The Heart of Wanaka initiative is focused on giving back. As a team we decided to work with what we have to provide for families in need. We talked to other businesses around us who were also keen to help. So, once a month we will provide a family in need with respite from their day-to-day challenges through the Heart of Wanaka.
Every month we will provide a family with a night’s stay at the Wanaka Hotel to rest, rejuvenate and relax. Together with a meal the experience will offer a quiet space to take some time out. The package will include:
- A night’s stay in our hotel
- Dinner at Amigos restaurant
- Breakfast at Beanies
- Wanaka Hotel accommodation
- New World Three Parks hamper
- Work Room flowers
We are proud of our little initiative; we think offering our special place to those in need is the perfect way for us to help those in our community who need it most. You may know someone who needs a break, maybe someone sick and needs some time out, or just a person in need who deserves a treat. We invite you to nominate someone in need:
*Tūrangawaewae is one of the most well-known and powerful Māori concepts. Literally tūranga (standing place), waewae (feet), it is often translated as ‘a place to stand’. Tūrangawaewae are places where we feel especially empowered and connected. They are our foundation, our place in the world, our home.
